Survival requires food. Food can be found in the world or purchased, but it is best is to cultivate via Farming! To farm you must first place fields in the Safe Zone. After which left click a seed in your inventory then drop it onto the field to plant it. Every plant will require a different amount of time to grow which can be sped up by watering the fields, either manually or due to rain, and fertilizing them with Manure from animals. Occasionally you will have to protect your farm from creatures trampling fields; building fences around the farms also protects them.
